A world-renowned engineer once stated that a consulting firm should pay equal attention
to: 1) responsive client service, 2) technical excellence of the firm, 3) professional development of the staff,
and 4) creating an atmosphere where people enjoy their jobs as illustrated by Figure 1. According to this individual,
if a company puts all its energy into these efforts, then the company will be successful.
Many consulting firms do not subscribe to this philosophy. Instead, they believe that a consulting firm is in business for the sole purpose of making money. They believe that as a business, the consulting firm needs to concentrate its efforts on financial matters in order to be successful. Business-driven consulting firms believe that managers should concentrate on items such as revenue, growth, profit, days-sales-outstanding, marketing, strategic planning, and break-even multipliers as illustrated by Figure 2.
We subscribe to the philosophy illustrated in Figure 1 as
follows:
"Geo/Environmental Associates, Inc. (GA) is dedicated to meeting the current and future needs of our industrial and mining clients. We will not be hindered by the administrative bureaucracies of large consulting firms which are now dedicated to maintaining growth by catering to governmental clients at the expense of their industrial and mining clients. Instead, we will concentrate on doing what we know how to do best: being client advocates for our private sector clients while promoting the professional growth of our staff."
As stated in our mission statement, GA is organized to support our senior professionals in their efforts to provide
high-quality, responsive service to their clients in a cost-effective manner. The method by which our senior professionals
achieve this mission is up to them. As an employee-owned firm, our personnel have the incentive to support the
efforts of the senior professionals because they have a vested interest in the success of the firm and the success
of our clients. Our clients benefit by having consultants who care about their work.
