| The Horse Run Dam was widened to enable a 13 million pound dragline to cross from one coal reserve to another. A slip developed in the upstream slope of the 70-foot high dam prior to the move which sheared through the principal spillway pipe of the dam. A buttress was constructed to stabilize the slip so that the dragline could be moved. After reaching the opposite abutment, the dragline was used to uncover the buried spillway pipe at the point of shearing. After repairing and replacing the damaged portion of spillway pipe, the upstream slope of the dam was reconstructed. | ![]() |
