GA partnered with Beaver Creek Associates, Inc. (BCA) of Knoxville, Tennessee, to assist with the Phase III site development for the expansion of the Poplar View landfill. This landfill is a RCRA Subtitle D Class III / IV landfill, operated by Construction and Demolition Landfill Services, Inc. of Knoxville, Tennessee. The landfill has been in operation since 1996.
Initially, in accordance with the Quality Assurance Plan, the six acre site
was drilled on a grid pattern in order to evaluate the suitability of the
subgrade as a geologic buffer. Those areas where unsuitable material or shallow
rock was encountered required the construction of a geologic buffer. The
geologic buffer was constructed by placing and compacting five feet of a low
permeability clay. Also, a major portion of the project included the
installation of a drainage system that was designed by GA. This drainage system
consists of a ditch/ 48-inch diameter culvert for diverting storm water runoff
to the sedimentation pond. Services provided during the project included daily
construction monitoring / management, topographic surveying and grade staking,
field and laboratory testing, and the preparation of the required reports and
certifications.
GA and BCA also recently completed the hydrogeological investigation and the design for a 1.4 million cubic yard future expansion of the Poplar View Landfill (Phases IV - VIII). The project is now in the permitting and review phase.
