October 20, 2001

GA Office -- Organizational meeting.  

Sign-up new members and leaders.  Discuss some of the stuff engineers do in our society.
Summarize the suggested 2001/2002  program.  Break into three work groups. Each group will spend about 20 minutes at their starting work station and then rotate. 

Work stations include:

Engineering Explorers Post web site construction

bullet

Development of a simple finite element computer model to assess seepage through a dam

bullet

Perform simple testing to assess the engineering characteristics of soil samples and perform soil magic tricks.

Reconvene to participate in a model construction project, eat pizza, socialize and get acquainted with other Explorers Post members.

Plan for the next meeting and discuss possible community service projects where engineering skills can be put to use.

Saturday, November 3, 2001

Meet at the City of Knoxville Traffic Engineering Signal Shop at 10:00  Saturday morning. We will tour the shop and learn how it is determined: where traffic signals are installed, the traffic signal timing, how signals work, e.g., detector loops, pedestrian signals, etc.  

At the question and answer session during lunch you can ask the burning questions: 
Why does it seem like we have to sit at
some lights forever? 


Pizza and drink with be provided for lunch.
